(Business) Etiquette

Just act normal, that’s crazy enough already…
Just accept me as I am…
Why should I adapt to you?
I’ll decide that for myself…

We Dutch do not exactly excel at good manners, “civility”, or being considerate of one another. On the contrary, we are proud of being so “down to earth”, so “direct”, so “no nonsense”. Many people who grew up in the Netherlands do not really know any better than that this is normal, and are not aware that others might find their behaviour inappropriate. Or they are aware of it but do not know what they should do differently, or how.

Also curious about how things are actually “done properly”? Carel van Lynden gives lectures on good manners and helps people within companies, institutions and private individuals to find their way in (business) etiquette, in the way of interacting with one another and the rules that apply.

The Stoop Fund on YouTube

The Fund has its own YouTube channel. On this channel, the board and the descendants can post videos that have historical value. Think of a recording of a family home, a short impression of a Stoop Celebration, etc. Historical value is a broad concept. In 100 years our time will also be history, and descendants will be curious about the time in which we lived. So an impression of a descendant’s art exhibition, a podcast or documentary they made – it can and may be given a place in the Library. There are, however, a few conditions:

The Stoop Fund does not have to pay royalties to the maker of the video;

Home videos from (long) ago are welcome;

The video must be about a (historical) subject that may be of interest to the descendants;

The viewing time must be stated in minutes and seconds. A video should preferably last no longer than 5 minutes. If it is a documentary longer than 5 minutes, please provide it via a streaming channel such as YouTube;

Where applicable, credits must be named: the name of the musician and the piece of music used in the video, if any, and the name of the person who made the video where this is not a descendant;

The earlier example of an exhibition must relate to a descendant or the Fund. The descendant must therefore be the artist who (co-)created the exhibition, or (descendants of) the Fund must be the subject of the exhibition.

You can become a member of the YouTube channel, but this is not required. All videos will be published in protected form. This means that only subscribers can watch the videos when a video is published privately. When a video is published as unlisted, it can only be viewed on this website on the Videos page.

You can send your video via the Library Contribution form (maximum 5 MB). Files up to 2 GB can be sent via WeTransfer to redactie@stoopfonds.nl. A 2 GB file is approximately 30 minutes of video. The editors prefer video material with a maximum of about 5 minutes. Of course, documentaries with a longer viewing time are also welcome.
